Meraki

Materials Reimagined

A material-led notebook studio born from British bookbinding and manufacturing.

Design Begins With Material

At Meraki, design starts with the material itself.

Industrial fabrics, reclaimed surfaces, structural woods and specialist cover materials are transformed into carefully crafted notebooks.

Rather than applying design through print, we allow materials, textures and structure to shape the final object.

Heritage - Featured Collection

The Heritage collection is where Meraki began.

Developed as a reusable notebook system, each piece is constructed from laser-cut, veneered wood and designed to be used, adapted and refilled over time. The structure is defined by a living hinge, allowing the material to flex while retaining the strength and character of solid wood.

Rather than a fixed-format notebook, Heritage is built as an ongoing object. Internal pages can be removed and replaced once filled, extending the life of the notebook and reducing the need for repeated replacement.

The wood is left deliberately natural, allowing it to evolve through handling and use. Over time, the surface can be sanded, treated or refinished, developing a patina unique to each piece.

Produced in Bristol using a combination of digital cutting and hand assembly, the collection reflects a material-led approach to design, where construction and longevity are prioritised over short-term use.

Meraki Lab

Meraki Lab is where we explore materials, structures and new ideas in bookbinding.

Some projects evolve into collections. Others remain ongoing material experiments and development studies.

Meraki Lab presents prototypes, material explorations and concept work investigating surfaces, structures and alternative materials in bookbinding.

Not all projects shown are available for commercial sale, and some represent conceptual or exploratory studies rather than finished retail products.

Custom Projects

Meraki collaborates with brands, artists, and organisations to create bespoke notebooks using distinctive materials. Projects may involve repurposing surplus materials, translating brand surfaces into book form, or developing entirely new structures.
